Fundamentals / Little Athletics 

  • Introduces concepts of Run / Jump / Throw
  • Building motor skills of agility, balance, co-ordination (ABCs)
  • The emphasis of this group is to have FUN while being active
  • Older Fundamentals are introduced to events such as long jump, turbo javelin and sprint drills

 

Learning to Train 

  • Introduces athletes to a more structured training session
  • Warm Up, agility and events drills
  • Event specific training such as sprints, throws and jumps
  • Aims to give athletes confidence to enter competitions

 

Training to Train 

  • The aim of the group is to support athletes in achieving technical proficiency
  • Athletes will take part in Athletics Ireland track and field and cross country competitions
  • Events coached are sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt, javelin and discuss

 

Cross Country / Middle Distance group 

  • For athletes entering cross country events (September to December)
  • Middle distance track events indoors and outdoors
  • The session involves a warm up jog, stretching/drills and interval sessions
  • Athletes are encouraged to do an additional two runs per week themselves and to attend the Thursday session
